BYMAT is a successful initiative started by 5 young mathematicians at ICMAT some years ago to organize an international congress to bring young mathematicians together, with the essential support of BBVA Foundation. This year the third edition attracted more than 300 participants, and it was hosted virtually at Universidad de Valencia due to the COVID19 situation. The round table on Day 1 was devoted precisely to discussing the role of mathematics in the fight against the pandemics. David had the chance to discuss with other experts and scientific journalists on this matter.
